This 2003 record represented a real turning point for Static-X. Korn’s Jonathan Davis had tapped Wayne Static to sing “Not Meant for Me” on the Queen of the Damned soundtrack, and that uncharacteristically melodic tune moved the band in a whole new direction. In short order, they ditched erstwhile producer Ulrich Wild for Josh Abraham, who had worked with more mainstream bands like Staind and Velvet Revolver, and lost both drummer Ken Jay and guitarist Koichi Fukuda. But (thanks in part to the prodigious talents of A Perfect Circle drummer Josh Freese) out of all that turmoil came another Top 20 record, albeit one that challenged dedicated devotees of their former industrial/nu metal sound even as it found new audiences. For its first American LP release, we’ve given Shadow Zone a metallic green and gold vinyl pressing, complete with a full-color inner sleeve featuring lyrics. Remastered for vinyl by Mike Milchner at Sonic Vision!
